Family, (whom I love)

Everything is still great. The temple here in Ghana was so sick. It was the most amazing experience. The MTC is getting a little old, I just want to get out of here and teach. I'm getting used to the heat now, but it's still so HOT!!! I've learned so much more than I ever thought capable. And it's only been a little over one week. My companionship is great. Elder Bond is from Texas and the other is from Ghana(can't spell his name). My MTC President , Brother Froerer is the guy Aunt Steff told you was coming to Ghana. He told me how he knew them. Send me some address so I can write people. I love you all and miss you. But I love being here so it all works out.
Okay, gotta go! Peace
Love Elder Adams

First Letter!!!!!

Dear Family & Friends,
So far the experience has been amazing. The MTC is one of the happiest and most spiritual places on earth. It is also one of the hottest and most humid ever imaginable. I sweat all day everyday, even when I am in the shower. They say it takes six months to get used to...CRAP!!!The culture and everything is a lot different. The food is very spicy, and I gave away all my deodorant to my black roommates. They have never heard of deodorant! Go figure. But anyway the food is not that bad, it will just take a while to get used to. Hot dogs for breakfast is a little weird.
The African people love us Obrunie's (whites). They take pictures with us every chance they get. I get along with them so well. They are so funny and a way awesome people. They are very knowledgeable and spiritual in the gospel. I've learned so much already. Studying and going to class doesn't seem like a burden, I always look forward to it. I love learning new things, but I wish I knew more. The gospel truly is what makes us happy. Anyhow, everything is going great. I miss you all and hope to hear from you soon.

Love , Elder Adams

One Week Later

We probably won't be communicating with Garrett for a few more weeks. They can't email from the MTC and the mail takes 3 or so weeks. I have been emailing a Mom from Ogden whose son, Elder Jeff Speechly, went out the same time as Garrett. She knows the MTC President and his wife. She heard from her son today and below is what she had to say. It is great to get any information we can and to find out how things are going in Ghana.

He was at the Temple and the Elders that had been endowed got out earlier than the rest so he got to call. He mentioned Elder Adams. He loves him and I guess they are good buds. He said they get along great. I told him you and I have been emailing on the MM website He was excited. He said the temple was amazing. He said they don't get to email from the MTC but that they get out to see Elder Holland on the 23rd. Jeff's companion is from Ethiopia. He said the humidity is hard to get used to and the food. He said they have eaten the same thing about four times. He loves Pres Froerer and his wife. They have 17 English speaking missionaries and the rest are learning French. There is 51 missionaries there. He said that they have an interpreter in class and it makes it hard to learn because there is so much going on. He sounded so happy and It made my day!!!

Elder Adams phoned Mom!

Elder Adams called at 4:00pm Thursday afternoon (11:00pm Ghana time) to say he had arrived safetly. He was the only missionary at the MTC, others were to report the next day by noon. Everything went well and he said he's ready to get to work. His luggage arrived safely and Customs didn't even check his luggage. It was a short call, but a relief to know he arrived safely.

Flight Info.

Elder Adams left Reno at 10:30 am. We were able to go through the security checkpoint to see him off. (Thanks Jason & Terrin!) He arrived in Salt Lake City at 1:05 pm where Whitney too was able to go through security and say her goodbyes as well as load up his backpack with lots of goodies. Left at 2:55 MST for LAX and arrived there at 3:30 pm PST. Left LAX for Heathrow London should arrive there at 4:00am PST. Then the last leg leaves to Accra, Ghana and he arrives there at 9:30pm Accra time or 2:00pm PST on Thursday. His fortune cookie at Panda Express last night said, "You will travel far and wide." Wow that is true!
